The stroke names of Chinese characters include point, horizontal, vertical, left-off, left-off, lift, fold and hook. These eight basic strokes form the basis of Chinese characters and are called “Eight Methods of Permanent Characters”.
Point (丶): It is one of the most basic strokes and represents the shape of a point.
Horizontal (一): a horizontal line.
Vertical (丨) : A vertical line.
Skimming (丿) : A line that slopes downward to the left.
Si (乀) : A line inclined downward to the right.
Lift (㇀) : the line picked up upwards.
Fold (乛) : A stroke in which a line is folded.
Hook (亅) : The hook-shaped part at the end of a line that goes up or down.
In addition, there are many variants of these basic strokes, such as vertical short vertical, long vertical, vertical left, vertical folding, vertical hook, vertical curved hook and so on. Chinese characters are composed of these basic strokes and their variants.
